Advice for Passing your Learner's Permit Test

If you're not quite old enough to take the full license exam, passing the learner's permit test is the first step towards becoming a legal driver. However, you may be worried about how to properly prepare for acing this important test. Here are some car travel tips and car safety tips on successfully earning your learner's permit.

Parking lots
Though you're not ready to hit the streets yet, you can still get some real-life experience behind the wheel. You and your parents should head to an empty parking lot and practice the basics of driving. The California Department of Motor Vehicles recommends brushing up on skills like steering, accelerating, braking, signaling and checking mirrors.

Study
While becoming comfortable behind the wheel is an important step, most learner's permit exams deal solely in theory. According to Drivers.com, you should obtain a copy of your state's driver's handbook to study up on common rules of the road regarding night driving, passing, parking, speed limits.

Take a class
If you don't feel confident enough to pass your learner's permit exam on your own, many public and private organizations offer driver's education classes. These courses provide you with first-hand information regarding what will be on state driver's exams. You may also discover some misconceptions you or your family may have about what's actually legal on the road.
