Safest and Worst Driving Cities in America

While driving can be dangerous in small towns and urban areas alike, many people regard city driving as particularly complex and hazardous. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that the average American is involved in a car accident about once every ten years. However, some locations have stood out as exceptionally safe or particularly dangerous cities for drivers. Here are some car travel tips on the best and worst driving cities in America.

Fort Collins, Colorado
2011 is the second year in a row that Fort Collins, Colorado, has earned the distinction of "America's Safest Driving City," according to the Allstate Insurance Company's report on the best drivers in the nation. The study shows that most Fort Collins drivers will get in an accident on average once every 14 years. This statistic is approximately 29 percent better than the national average.

Washington, D.C.
Drivers in the nation's capital scored the lowest on the report, demonstrating an average of about 5 years between crashes. This places accidents in Washington, D.C. at almost 107 percent more frequent than the average American city, according to the news source.
