Tips for Traveling with a Big Dog in your Car

Whether you're going for a short drive through town or on an extended road trip, traveling with dogs can be a problematic situation. The normal complications like stopping for exercise, dealing with an enclosed space and preventing messy accidents become even more difficult when working with an especially large pooch. Here are some car travel tips to help make the journey more manageable for you and your big dog.
Back seat
Considering the size of your dog, you should make sure it stays in the back seat of your car. In the front seat, your dog may start to get excited, nervous or just antsy and approach you for comfort, causing a very large distraction. By limiting your dog to the back seat, you'll remain free to pay full attention to the road ahead.
Chew toys
If you're traveling on a long road trip, you should bring along some of your dogs' favorite toys and snacks to keep them happy. Being cooped up for such a long time can be stressful for anyone, and dogs are no different.
Crate
Sometimes a big dog can be too much for one or even two people to handle, especially in the car. If your dogs become too excited or energetic in the car, you might need to contain them in a dog crate for some time until they calm down. Many dogs enjoy their crates as a safe place, so this may have a soothing effect on your pup.
