Common Movie Myths about Cars Part II

With almost a century of film history depicting cars in amazing, exciting and unbelievable situations, there have been a lot of misconceptions about automobiles floating around thanks to Hollywood. Since they couldn't fit onto one list, here are some more car travel tips on distinguishing fact from fiction regarding common car movie myths - part II.

Sugar, sugar
A common revenge gag in many movies is to pour sugar in an automobile's gas tank with the hopes of ruining the car. Many people believe that once inside the tank, the sugar will harden into thick goo and destroy the engine. However, there are no studies to show that this actually works, as much of the sugar doesn't even reach the engine, according to the Discovery Channel.

Hotwire
Dozens upon dozens of films have depicted a character in dire need of a vehicle breaking into a car and quickly hotwiring it to make a getaway. Hollywood would have you believe that doing this is as simple as connecting the red and green wires. However, modern vehicles are equipped with such advanced technologies that this would likely now be impossible.

Sliding
The third the Fast and the Furious movie revolved around the concept of sliding around corners to drive faster. While it may look cool, actual racers know that drifting around corners actually slows your car down and reduces control, rather than helping you speed up, according to the news source.
