Holiday Airport Difficulties for Drivers

With the holiday season in full gear, many Americans are preparing to fly to visit family and friends for Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanza and New Year's Eve - making for one of the busiest travel times of the year. Beyond flying, getting to the airport quickly and safely can seem almost impossible. Here are some car travel tips to make sure you reach your flight on time.
Leave early
This seems obvious, but many people still underestimate just how long it takes to get to their flight from start to finish. When considering holiday traffic, checking in, securing your luggage, passing through security and boarding the plane, the whole process can take a few hours. Plan on arriving at the airport at least two hours prior to your boarding time.
Get a ride
Making accommodations for your vehicle at an airport parking lot can be complicated and expensive. Rather than drive yourself to the airport, have a friend or family member drop you off and pick you up. If you're having trouble locating a friendly driver, consider hiring a shuttle service or cab.
Pack light
The fewer bags you have to carry through the airport, the less aggravating your trip will seem. Try fitting all your important items into one or two bags for the speediest experience. Also, remember to leave holiday gifts unwrapped for a painless airport security experience.
