Teaching Your Kids Classic Games While on a Road Trip

With the prevalence of digital entertainment, from television to video games to mp3 players, many kids haven't learned the classic games we played when we were their age. What better opportunity to introduce some of these beloved pastimes than during a family road trip! There are many games your passengers can entertain the kids with while you drive. Consider some of these car travel tips for games that will be easy to bring on the road.
Head to the store to purchase travel-sized or magnetized versions of chess, checkers, backgammon or Chinese checkers. If your kids are younger, start with more straightforward games like checkers. The passenger teaching the kids can start by explaining the objective of the game and then describe which moves are allowed and which are restricted.
You may want to save more strategic games like chess for your older children. With this game it is important to take the instruction slow. Start by introducing the names of the pieces and where they are located on the board. Spend some time practicing how each piece moves until your child has the hang of it.
After your road trip, you'll have even more activities for the family to enjoy together at home!
