Three Things your Teen Should Know for the Driving Exam

If your teen is about to celebrate his or her sixteenth birthday, your family has probably been discussing the realities of having another driver around the home. Regardless of how confident he or she feels behind the wheel, your teen is going to need to impress the driving instructor before hitting the road. Here are some car travel tips on skills required to pass a driving exam.
Back-in parking
While many people rarely practice the back-in park, it's still an important part of learning to drive. Back-in parking is not as intuitive as regular parking, so you should practice with your teen in an empty lot so they can master the procedure.
Parallel parking
Even more dreaded than back-in parking is the parallel park. This can be the make-or-break moment on any driver's test, so your teen will need to practice extensively beforehand to nail this complex procedure. Use parking cones or empty trash bins to simulate squeezing into a street-side space.
Signaling
While practicing tricky parking and driving maneuvers is the bread and butter of preparing for a driving exam, there are smaller details that can also trip up young drivers - especially proper signaling. Remind your teen to signal not just during turns, but for parking jobs, U-turns and three point turns as well.
