Reasons to Own an All-Wheel Drive Vehicle

Buying a new car is certainly a rewarding experience, but choosing the right model can sometimes be a tough decision. You may immediately opt to buy a car with two-wheel drive because it's thousands of dollars cheaper than all-wheel drive. However, there are many significant advantages to owning a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive vehicle.
All-wheel drive vehicles receive power from the engine simultaneously, meaning that all tires administer traction. Some vehicles administer equal traction at all four corners, while others split the traction based on driving requirements and conditions. This application of traction is ideal for those who live in hilly environments or backcountry, especially after it rains.
All-wheel drive is also practical for anyone who lives in colder climates, as these are often the only vehicles that can successfully navigate through slush, ice and snow. However, don't be fooled by thinking all-wheel drive will help on ice. Ice doesn't care how many wheels are getting power. When the tires loose grip, there is nothing you can do. In drier climates, beach and desert environments all wheel drive can be a great asset as well because a pile-up of sand and dust can easily get motorists stuck.
Another advantage to all-wheel drive is that it allows drivers to access trails in national and state parks that are designated for off-roading, fishing or hunting. Owning this type of vehicle can easily allow one to see more scenery and enjoy the great outdoors. But keep in mind that some vehicles with all-wheel drive are not designed to go off-road. You wouldn't take a BMW 335 ix on a trail, but it will carve a two lane road on a mountain pass like a fiend.
